Enjoying Winter at Home

Don't want to leave the house? We understand! It’s no secret that the long winter and short days can cause some of us to be a little blue or antsy.

Combat it early this year by being proactive.

Throw a beach party with your children

Turn up the heat a bit, put on your summer clothes and party the day away! Make slushy drinks, play in the bathtub “ocean,” make hot dogs or hamburgers and eat them on the floor for a special picnic, listen to fun music and pretend you are in the Caribbean! Put lotion on like you are sunbathing and talk about all the different people, clouds and birds you see at your special beach.

Build a Fort

Use your furniture and blankets, sheets, towels, whatever you can find to build a fort in your living room. Spend the day in the fort eating a picnic or with flashlights reading your favorite stories.

Candy Cane Hunt
Take that box of candy canes and hide them throughout the house. Set a timer and see how many the kids can find before the buzzer goes off.

Board Games
Remember all those board games the kids received last year. Pull them out. Make some hot chocolate and laugh together. Games like Pie Face, Old Maid, and Go Fish never get old!

Bad Manners Dinner
Sometimes we can best learn lessons by knowing what not to do.  Enjoy a night of letting loose ... no napkins ... no please and thank you's ... no silverware. And then the next night, you can practice the opposite and talk about the difference.

Whether at home or out in our community, when you connect with your family you are building strong connections together that will last a lifetime.

May you and your family make many bright memories this year!
