Position Title: Director of Development and Communications    

Job Status: Regular, Non-Exempt, Salaried Employee

FTE:  1.0 FTE 

 

Job Summary:The Director of Development & Communications is responsible for fundraising, donor development and all communications for the organization. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as required to meet the mission and goals of the Child Abuse Council.

 

Work Site: Child Abuse Council business office,  524 15th Street, Moline, IL

                              

Supervisor: Executive Director      

Specific Duties:

  • Form and manage a Resource Development Committee made up of donors, volunteers and
    board members.

  •  Create an annual fund development plan, with input from the Executive Director and
    Resource Development Committee, to achieve targeted financial and donor engagement
    goals.

  • Manage a portfolio of major donors and primary prospects and ensure maintenance of essential
    donor data and gift/pledge history in a database.

  • Ensure accurate and timely tracking and acknowledgement of donations to the organization, both cash and in-kind. Regularly communicate with the Fiscal Director for accurate and timely recording on financial records.

  • Identify and obtain grants as appropriate for the organization. Work with Program Managers to gather necessary information and data.

  •  Keep abreast of recent research and trends on effective fundraising and donor management through active membership in professional association(s).

  • Manage a marketing, communications and events budget.

  • Oversee the execution of special event fundraising and third-party fundraising.

  •  Manage special event committees and volunteers to fulfill the special event fundraising needs of
    the organization and carry out the mission.

  • Write and direct the content and production of a wide range of Child Abuse Council materials in printed and electronic formats including, but not limited to, newsletters, web content, advertising (including radio, television, web, print), flyers, annual reports, event invitations, articles,
    brochures, and media releases.

  • Maintain the Child Abuse Council website with up to date content and current technology.

  •  Organize media opportunities for the Child Abuse Council and prepare the Executive Director in advance of media interviews.

  •  Supervise the Community Resilience Program Manager and the Child Abuse Council’s engaging the public with our Trauma Informed movement.

 

General Duties:

  • Maintain personnel records (i.e. time sheet and mileage/expense vouchers).

  • Attend all CAC staff meetings

  •  Participate in internal and external committees as appropriate.

  • Assist in general CAC planning, public activities and fundraising as appropriate.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.

  •  Minimum two years of experience in marketing, public relations & communications preferred (with non-profit experience a plus).

  •  Working knowledge of the technology needed to integrate social media into the Child Abuse Council’s various mediums.

  •  Demonstrated success in major gift fundraising through annual or capital campaign(s).

  • Ability to embrace organizational goals and work in a team-oriented environment.

  •  Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and comfort with asking for large financial gifts

  •  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  •  Ability to adhere to professional boundaries, ethics and confidentiality requirements.

  • Sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences in the workplace and in the community.

  • Bilingual a plus, but not required.
