Help Yourself. . .

By Helping The Child Abuse Council!

Good stewardship, careful planning and hard work by dedicated staff, plus the gifts of alumni and friends, lie at the heart of the Child Abuse Council's service to area families. Your annual and special gifts are like sunshine and rain to us. We welcome regular annual giving to carry out day-to-day programs and meet basic expenses, just as the farmer welcomes sunshine. But successful harvests also need occasional generous rains to take advantage of the sun's energy, just as the Council needs "special-" or "planned gifts" to meet special program needs while building a solid endowment for the future. Both are vital! We are now in partnership with the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend, to provide opportunities for all types of current and planned giving.

Our regular "checkbook" gifts are usually easy to manage and achieve. But special gifts require careful planning, to maximize their benefits to donors, their families and the Council alike. A "planned" gift can actually help you increase family income and reduce taxes, thanks to tax laws encouraging charitable giving. Here are a few ideas you can discuss with your attorney, tax planner, insurance professional or us:

  1. Income-producing gifts, giving me and/or my spouse and children a guaranteed income of between 6% and 12%. (Charitable Annuity.)

  2. Giving to eliminate capital gains tax on appreciated assets like stocks, bonds, property or business, while increasing their return to family and helping the Council. (Charitable Annuities or Remainder Trusts.)

  3. Gifts helping the Council and other non-profits at the same time.

  4. Giving an insurance- or annuity contract for a tax-deduction or possible life income.

  5. "Leveraged gifts" producing "dollars from cents." (Insurance or annuities.)

  6. Gifts in trust to help the Council and my family, while reducing or eliminating estate taxes. (Charitable Remainder Unitrusts or Charitable Lead Trusts.)

  7. Council. (Charitable Lead Trusts.)

  8. Gifts as part of cost-reducing estate plans.
